How do I remove the background from an image?

How do I make an image background transparent?
Keep the background set to Transparent and download as PNG or WebP. JPG cannot store transparency, so a JPG download gets a white background instead.
Can I add a white or colored background instead of a transparent one?
Yes. Choose White, Black or any custom color before you download. White backgrounds are ready for marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay and Etsy.

Are my images stored on a server?
Dplooy does not store your images. With the default BiRefNet model your image is sent to a free Hugging Face server to be processed. Choose an on-device model (BiRefNet Lite or MODNet) and the image never leaves your device. Your history is kept only in your browser.
Can I remove a background without uploading my photo?
Yes. Choose BiRefNet Lite or MODNet under AI model. The model is downloaded once and runs in your browser, so your photo stays on your device. BiRefNet Lite needs a recent graphics card; MODNet works anywhere but is made for photos of people.
What AI model is used for background removal?
BiRefNet, an open-source background removal model (MIT licence), running on free Hugging Face servers. You can also run BiRefNet Lite or MODNet (for photos of people) on your own device instead.
Does it keep hair and fine edges?
Yes. BiRefNet is built for high-resolution cut-outs, so hair, fur and thin edges stay sharp. Use the compare slider to check them before you download.
Does it work for product photos, logos and signatures?
Yes. It works on products, people, pets, cars, logos and signatures. For a logo or signature, download a transparent PNG so it sits cleanly on any page or document.
Why did it switch to another server?
The tool uses several free servers. If one is busy, asleep or out of free GPU time, it moves to the next one automatically and tells you which server finished the job.
